Put Unemploymed Check-Takers to Work

So why is it we pay people not to work ? The country is currently at 9.1 unemployment rate and the government is cutting back in lots of areas including its workforce. As a result many government programs are not getting the attention they need and people are losing their jobs. Yet, there are lots of people on unemployment either 1) trying to find jobs and can’t 2) milking the weekly checks 2) eventually find a job.

I propose that people on unemployment work for the government a minimum of 20 hours a week to keep their checks coming.  This would keep the system more honest AND increase production.

Parks in Seattle are being shutdown and have limited service hours. People collecting unemployment could easily keep our parks running. There are probably a huge number of  government type jobs that could use some attention. The workforce is there and it’s already being paid for. We should figure out how to use it.
